Frequently Asked Questions

If you don’t see your question below, feel free to send it to us.

Do you offer any design services for a machined part? If not, what does a company need to present upfront?

We do have design capabilities but the customer must approve and assume responsibility for the final design. Please submit a fully defined product including all necessary prints, CAD models, specifications, etc. along with the estimated annual usage.

If you do the design for me, will I have a chance to review the design before it's made?

We supply every customer with an eDrawings of his or her enclosure or part prior to it entering production. This is a 3-D model of the enclosure and provides the client the ability to verify dimensions, view the enclosure from all angles, view section cutaways to inspect the inside and dissemble the enclosure to view each part that makes up the assembly. When we send you an eDrawing, we’ll also include a link to download the free software required to view your file.

Am I limited to the materials/components stated on your website?

No, you are not. We are happy to ordering additional materials for special orders; however this may result in additional lead time and increased cost.

What is CNC Milling?

CNC Milling is the removal of metal with a rotary cutter or other rotating cutting tool. Our 3-axis milling feature a 30,000 RPM spindle which allows us to cut at high speed with smaller cutters, and features an automatic tool changer which decreases total time to cut a part.

What CAD files do you accept?

We accept the following CAD formats:

• .sldprt, .sldasm (Solidworks Pack & Go)
• .stp (STEP file)
• .igs (IGES file)
• .asm (ProE 3D assembly and parts)
• .x_t (Unigraphics)
• .sat (AutoCad 3D assembly)
• .dwg (AutoCad 2D assembly)
• .dxf (AutoCad 2D assembly)

Please note: if you are submitting a .slddrw or .sldasm file, we’ll require the SLD PRT files referenced within the files (also known as SolidWorks Pack and Go). For more information, contact us at srprecision@comcast.net

What types of materials can be CNC machined outside of steel?

Aluminum, Copper Alloys (Bronze, Brass), Titanium, Nickel Alloys (Inconel, Monel).
